Cooperative Auto Network adds 100th Vehicle

Vancouver, BC's Cooperative Auto Network (CAN) added the 100th vehicle to its fleet today, making it the second largest and second oldest carshare in Canada after Montreal. CAN also has vehicles in several outlying communities as well: Whistler, as well as on Vancouver Island in Nanaimo, Tofino, Courtenay and on Cortes Island.

CAN has about 2,000 members and is the only cooperative carshare in North America. It has a variety of vehicle types, all charged at the same rate. Access to the vehicles is provided via lockboxes at each location. Web reservations were added last year. CAN was founded by Tracy Axelsson in 1997. Kevin McLaughlin of Autoshare got his start in carsharing there, as well.

You can hear a nice 6 minute CBC radio story about CAN at the link below. Congratulations, Tracy and staff!
